Connections Keep Going
At the age of 20, “Marina” was too old to live in the Jalalabad institution for disabled children. But she has no family, and her cognitive disabilities make her incapable of living on her own. It was time for Marina to leave the home she had known for years and go to the institution for adults with disabilities on the other side of the country. Marina had some special friends though. CDI staff working with the education project in the children’s home had built strong relationships with Marina. When Marina moved, one CDI staff member travelled hours to visit her, continuing the encouraging relationship. The staff lady followed relational connections in the new city and introduced Marina to local townspeople. So even in a new home, Marina will have support from friends outside the institution.
