Attention Matters

No one at the children’s home paid much attention to “Rahim.” He never spoke and gave no indication that he understood what was going on around him. But a CDI staff member noticed Rahim and thought he could do more. She started sitting with Rahim and saying simple words like “bread” and “food,” encouraging him to repeat them. Soon Rahim began to speak those words. And it was like something opened up inside him. He began to respond to comments and requests from others. CDI staff helped open the world for this boy.
